Confirmation
Supported by the congregation, at baptism parents vow to nurture the infant in the Christian faith. Confirmation is the personal affirmation a young person makes that those vows reflect their own belief. It is their personal profession of faith in Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
FPC offers a Confirmation Class for all eighth graders. These young people, working with our Staff, participate in an opening retreat at Camp Hopewell usually in January. Classes last for several weeks and focus on Bible study, as well as an introduction to Presbyterianism.
Working with mentor members from the congregation, they also participate in devotional study, a mission-outreach project, and write a personal faith statement. At the conclusion of the class, the Confirmands are given the opportunity to make their profession of faith before the Session and the congregation.
