This group of Elders connects and oversees all the various programs and ministries in the life of our church. The Session of First Presbyterian Church of Tupelo consists of our pastor, Clerk of the Session,\u00a0 and 21 Elders who are elected by the congregation for three-year terms. The Session is charged with managing the programs, ministries, and life of our Church.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/firstprestupelo.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/The-Session-current-members-1.docx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">View our current list of Elders here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>According to the Presbyterian Church (USA) Book of Order, responsibilities of the Session are as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">Provide for worship, including preaching, music,\u00a0 and communion.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">Provide for growth of our members through personal and pastoral care, educational programs, fellowship, and opportunities for service.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">Receive members into the church.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">Provide for administration of the church and management of church property.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">Delegate and supervise the work of the committees.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">Maintain relationships with higher governing bodies of the church.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">Provide stewardship of money, time,\u00a0 and talents given by the members.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">Lead the congregation in ministries of personal and social healing and <\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">reconciliation in the community.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">Lead the congregation in participation in the mission of the whole Church in the world.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">Lead the congregation continually to discover what God is doing in the world, and to plan for change, renewal, and reformation under the Word of God.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Our Session delegates much of its work to seven committees, each of which is chaired by a member of the Session and includes members from the congregation-at-large.\u00a0 First Presbyterian&#8217;s committees are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"gmail_default\">Administrative\/Stewardship<\/li>\n<li class=\"gmail_default\">Christian Education<\/li>\n<li class=\"gmail_default\">Congregational Care<\/li>\n<li class=\"gmail_default\">Fellowship<\/li>\n<li class=\"gmail_default\">Outreach\/Missions<\/li>\n<li class=\"gmail_default\">Property &amp; Grounds<\/li>\n<li class=\"gmail_default\">Worship<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Joining a committee is a great way to contribute to the church and our own spiritual growth while enjoying yourself and getting to know others in our congregation. responsible for annually reviewing the business management of the overall operation of the church in all areas of its life and for making recommendations to the Session where changes should be made to (Fall and Spring) at University of Mississippi<\/li>\n<li>Assist Presbyterian Women with the Lenten Luncheon<\/li>\n<li>Easter Brunch<\/li>\n<li>Church Picnic in May<\/li>\n<li>Special events as Leadership is specific for installation, education, and medical.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Fundraisers through the year<br><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Monthly Salvation Army Dinners<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Disaster Relief Assistance as needed<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Youth Mission Trip <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Operation Christmas Child Ministry<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Habitat for Humanity, an annual community work project for youth and adults<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">FPC supports the following local organizations: Saints Brew Ministry, Helping Hands Food Pantry, St. Luke&#8217;s Food Pantry.<\/span> Participants are any church members wanting to serve, including FPC youth, and committee members.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">Two Cents a Meal Collection:\u00a0 <\/span>Children collect a monthly separate offering which is sent to our Presbytery and to the three food programs above.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Benevolence Support:\u00a0 <\/strong>Committee reviews and makes a recommendation for allocation of the benevolence fund in our budget to various programs including Antoine Tannehill Free Clinic, Shepherds Center, CASA, Alpha House, SAFE, Faith Haven, Boys and Girls Club, C.A.T.C.H.
